Implementing the watershed management plan involves using a variety of expertise and skills, including project management, technical expertise, group facilitation, data analysis, communication, and public relations. Your watershed plan implementation team should include members that can bring these skills to the table. The management measures selected, schedules and milestones established, financial and technical resources identified, and I/E programs developed in the course of assembling your plan provide a road map for implementation. Follow it. Take advantage of the partnerships you formed during plan development to work toward efficient implementation of the plan.

Key implementation activities include the following:

  • Ensuring technical assistance in the design and installation of management measures
  • Providing training and follow-up support to landowners and other responsible parties in operating and maintaining the management measures
  • Managing the funding mechanisms and tracking expenditures for each action and for the project as a whole
  • Conducting the land treatment and water quality monitoring activities and interpreting and reporting the data
  • Measuring progress against schedules and milestones
  • Communicating status and results to stakeholders and the public
