The Herring Run Watershed Association works to improve the environmental quality of the Herring Run watershed through educational programs, demonstration projects, and volunteer mobilization. A native plant nursery, Community Rain Barrel workshops, invasive plant pulls, and tree planting events are a few examples of projects managed by HRWA.

2008 will mark the opening of the Herring Run Watershed Center, a former bakery turned LEED silver certified building in the Belair-Edison neighborhood of Baltimore city. Features include a Green roof, a Cistern for capturing storm water, Brown water and Composting toilets, and Tankless hot water heaters among other green practices throughout the building.
